Fire Engineer – Risk Management & Compliance Specialist

Occusurv is seeking an experienced Fire Engineer to join our team full-time. This role is critical to our mission of providing client-first risk management services, ensuring fire safety and compliance for a wide range of clients across South Africa. The ideal candidate will: Develop fire safety and compliance designs in line with SANS regulations, including rational building fire safety design, firefighting equipment, smoke evacuation systems, stair pressurization systems, and fire sprinkler systems. Provide expert input into thermal modeling (if applicable) and assist in comprehensive fire risk assessments. Manage small to medium-sized projects independently, from consultation through design, documentation, and compliance checks. Travel across South Africa to conduct site visits, consultations, and project management tasks as required. Collaborate with clients, brokers, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate fire safety solutions into broader construction and risk mitigation projects. Prepare tender documentation and assist with project management administration. Educate clients on fire safety requirements, offering clear recommendations to enhance compliance and reduce risk. BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 5 years experience in the mechanical building services sector, with specific expertise in fire safety design. Registration with ECSA Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, and Revit. Experience Requirements: Extensive knowledge of SANS regulations for rational building fire safety design. Proven experience in designing firefighting equipment, smoke evacuation systems, stair pressurization systems, and fire sprinkler systems. Experience in thermal modeling is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to develop fire safety and fire compliance designs for multidisciplinary construction projects. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage documentation and administrative tasks effectively.
