Job Description
Experience: The successful incumbent must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in construction project management, with a proven track record or successfully delivering projects on time and within budget Formal qualifications: A bachelors degree in engineering (civil or structural), construction management, building studies, quantity surveying or a related field is preferred A post graduate degree in related field will be advantageous High proficiency in Microsoft Projects Valid driving license code 08 Registration with SACPCMP as PrCM or ECSA as PrEng/PrTechEng will be advantageous Own transport Special conditions: The successful incumbent must be willing to travel to multiple different sites Responsibilities: The contracts director will be responsible for: Planning Managing the tender preparation for clients and commercial bids to help bring in new business Preparing for the developing and presentation of project proposals Managing plans and estimating budgets and timescales Managing construction schedules and budgets Handling any unexpected costs and unforeseen circumstances Organising and managing human capital to provide the client with services Managing multiple concurrent projects Managing resources regarding work schedules Client relations and liaison Negotiating contracts, monitoring subcontractors, communication with employees and clients, overseeing and resolving disputes and process changes Meeting with clients and all relevant stakeholders to ensure client satisfaction and to reach agreement regarding budgets and timescales Discussing, drafting, reviewing and negotiating the terms of business contracts Attending site meetings to monitor progress Communicating with subcontractors Conducting site visits on multiple sites Handling and managing client expectations Acting as the main point of contact for clients, site and project managers Working with third parties to ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities Liaising with technical and financial staff, sub-contractors, legal teams and the clients own representatives Building and maintaining good relationships with clients and suppliers Liaising with external stakeholders to document all activities Compiling and making of presentations to clients and suppliers Quality and legislation compliance Making sure construction projects meet agreed technical and legislative standards Implementing various policies and guidelines Overseeing invoicing upon satisfactory project completion Ensuring that all contracts are accurate and relevant documentation is correct and updated when necessary Identifying ways to increase efficiency and improve productivity Ensuring health safety and environmental legislation and regulation compliance Inherent requirements for the position: Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations in the South African context Working knowledge and experience with legal documentation Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including drawings and specifications Strong leadership and communication skills to management project teams and stakeholders Business management skills Excellent communication (verbal, written and technical) Excellent problem-solving skills Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling, tools and cost estimation software Analytical thinking Knowledge of project management software Strong focus on compliance and regulatory aspects Understanding of contractual conditions and relevant industry regulations Excellent attention to detail Familiarity with sustainable construction practices Excellent reporting skills Familiarity with FIDIC forms of contract Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undergo psychometric testing and background screening.
