Job Description
Role: As our Cost Accountant/Engineer, you will: Deliver detailed, innovative, and accurate cost solutions for new and evolving projects. Prepare quotations, define project scopes, and control budgets and forecasts. Analyse and benchmark data to provide industry-leading insights. Utilise advanced tools like Microsoft Projects, Excel, ProfitFab, and Syspro. Collaborate with vendors to obtain and validate cost data and quotes. Implement cost-control strategies and ensure adherence to quality and procedural standards. Use methodologies such as progress measurement, earned value, and change management. Engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and provide tailored solutions. Use your cost accounting & engineering expertise to assist with project planning and meet client expectations. Key Responsibilities Cost Analysis: Evaluate various cost components, including fixed, variable, direct, and indirect costs, to understand their impact on overall financial performance. Budgeting: Assist in preparing budgets by forecasting future costs and analyzing historical data. Cost Control : Develop and implement cost control measures and cost reduction strategies to enhance operational efficiency. Variance Analysis : Perform variance analysis to identify discrepancies between budgeted and actual costs, providing insights into performance. Inventory Valuation : Calculate and report on inventory costs, ensuring accurate valuation for financial statements. Reporting : Prepare detailed cost reports for management, outlining findings and making recommendations for cost-effective practices. Collaboration : Work closely with other departments, such as production, finance, and management, to provide data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions. Compliance : Ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations related to cost accounting practices. Qualifications and Skills Education : A bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) are advantageous. Experience : The successful incumbent should have a minimum of five (5) years experience in cost estimation, ideally within engineering or mining sectors. Proficiency : High proficiency in Microsoft Projects, Excel, ProfitFab, and Syspro. Inherent Skills required by the role : Analytical skills to analyze complex financial data and draw actionable insights. Attention to detail for precision in calculations and reporting. Technical proficiency in accounting software and tools. Communication skills to present findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Problem-solving capability to identify issues and propose solutions. Special Conditions Relocation : Relocation to Klerksdorp, North West Province, is essential. Travel : Willingness to travel and work outside South African borders for prolonged periods is required. Passport : A valid passport is mandatory.
