MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST – BURNS MAENDEL

As a contributing member of the Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers (BMCE) design team, you will enjoy a fast-paced, friendly environment that is collaborative and energized to deliver design solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Working as part of a team within the BMCE Municipal Department your Monday morning will include a project team meeting to establish priorities for the week. Open transparent communication is essential at BMCE.
- During summer months, you will have the opportunity to enjoy working outside and gain valuable experience in the field completing topographical surveys, utilizing drone technologies, and completing project inspections. You will be involved in the layout of various construction projects ranging from sewer & water to buildings & structures.
- During the winter months, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a warm office environment and work on design projects. Utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D daily to complete detailed design drawings for small and large design projects as assigned by the Project Engineer.
Some of these tasks will include:
- Assist in the design of engineering systems, products, or processes.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D software to create detailed technical drawings or models.
- Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data.
- Perform necessary calculations and assist in the design process to complete projects.
- Create detailed drawings showing the natural and artificial features of a landscape, such as rivers, roads, buildings, and elevation changes. Collaborate with the Project Engineer and modify drawings as necessary.
- Inspect construction works to ensure they are built according to design specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Keep detailed records of inspections, including any issues found, corrective actions taken, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Prepare design computations and quantity estimates.
- Provide technical support to other staff in the area of expertise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with specialty in Municipal or Geomatics is preferred.
- Must have experience or training with Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite software, including AutoCAD Civil3D.
- Experience considered an asset: Both junior and senior candidates are encouraged to apply for this position. Compensation provided will be adjusted based on years of experience.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Current designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or ability to register as such with Certified Technicians & Technologists of Manitoba (CTTAM).
- Clear written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field with direction/support from project engineers.
- Well-developed time management and personal organizational skills.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
