Job Description

Position description Category Engineering science Contract Fixed-term contract Job title GNSS System Engineer and Jamming / Spoofing Techniques H/F Socio-professional category Executive Contract duration (months) 12 Job description Once confined to very specific applications, satellite navigation systems, also known as GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), are now widespread and can be found in numerous devices, including some sensitive systems such as autonomous vehicles and military applications. Alongside the rapid expansion of this technology, the frequency and complexity of attacks against these systems have also increased through techniques known as jamming and spoofing. To mitigate equipment vulnerabilities, most receivers incorporate algorithms to detect such attacks by analyzing various signals and metrics provided by the system. The LS2PR laboratory at LETI is developing an innovative approach to address this issue using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to detect and classify such attacks with very short response times. However, the effectiveness of these techniques depends on the quality of the database used for training, which is further complicated by the difficulty of implementing attacks involving complex equipment. Leveraging the knowledge of CEA and its partner teams, the candidate should: Conduct a state-of-the-art review of different types of GNSS attacks. Acquire or enhance their knowledge of the use of relevant systems (GNSS receivers, signal generators like Skydel). Define a testing protocol that considers feasibility constraints and the learning objectives (learning biases, etc.). Implement the testing setup, including equipment setup, configuration, and programming. Collect data. Perform post-processing and statistical analysis of the collected data to validate their suitability for machine learning. Prepare reports and participate in project meetings. Publish their work in high-quality conferences and journals Applicant Profile Metrology and Field Test Engineer In-depth knowledge of GNSS systems and radiofrequency signal emulation Definition and implementation of a database Post-processing and data analysis Programming language: Python, Matlab Position location Site Grenoble Job location France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Location Grenoble Candidate criteria Languages English (Intermediate) Recommended training Ingénieur Requester Position start date 01/01/2024 General information Organisation The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas : defence and security, nuclear energy (fission and fusion), technological research for industry, fundamental research in the physical sciences and life sciences. Drawing on its widely acknowledged expertise, and thanks to its 16000 technicians, engineers, researchers and staff, the CEA actively participates in collaborative projects with a large number of academic and industrial partners. The CEA is established in ten centers spread throughout France Reference 2023-29661 Division description Located on the MINATEC campus in Grenoble, Leti's main mission is to create innovation and transfer it to industry for medium- and long-term use. Leti's technology research is based on a world-class infrastructure, a focus on economic growth themes, and an intellectual property policy designed to create value for industry. Description de l'unité This position is offered by the LS2PR Laboratory (High-Speed Wireless Systems Laboratory) within the Systems Department of CEA-Leti in Grenoble. Comprising 20 permanent members, this team conducts research in the field of radio communication systems, focusing on waveforms, protocols, and their implementation on hardware platforms. The main applications include the evolution of cellular networks (6G networks), critical IoT networks, wireless optical communications, radio localization, and the functionalization of RF architectures for detection. The unique aspect of the laboratory is the collaboration of experts in signal processing, information coding, and optimization techniques, along with individuals working on hardware and software implementation on specific hardware targets. This diversity allows for the development of advanced prototypes necessary for the validation and valorization of the conducted research. The laboratory's objective is to produce results beyond the state-of-the-art, which are highlighted through a strong publication activity and the creation of intellectual property, with 45 publications and 12 patents annually. Additionally, the laboratory contributes to the missions of CEA-Leti by supporting industry through research partnerships aimed at transferring laboratory technologies to its collaborators.
