Protection & Control Manager - ICP Bristol (Hybrid) Up to £80,000 Position Overview A prominent UK ICP is seeking a Design Manager to act as the technical authority for Protection and Control activities. You will oversee all stages of secondary design—covering tendering, pre-construction, design, and commissioning. By managing a dedicated team of engineers and external contractors, you will ensure successful project execution while introducing and maintaining effective processes and procedures. Key Responsibilities Serve as the main approving authority for secondary designs up to 132kV. Develop bills of materials and standard design templates for 33/66/132kV systems. Address queries from panel manufacturers and support the resolution of on-site design issues. Sign off deliverables from subcontractors and approve design risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle. Authorise procurement of major components to guarantee alignment with technical specifications. Provide mentoring and guidance within and beyond your team to meet the wider business objectives. Requirements Minimum of 10 years’ experience in secondary design. EHV substation design expertise up to 132kV. Proficiency in AutoCAD and strong knowledge of national and international standards, as well as DNO requirements. Ability to interpret and apply established guidelines and policies to ensure high-quality project delivery. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Sound understanding of engineering design principles and construction methods. Valid driving licence and willingness to work flexibly.
