Job Description

Your responsibilities will include developing and managing project budgets, creating detailed schedules and overseeing resource allocation to ensure optimal execution. You will conduct regular site inspections or arrange for others to do so, review construction plans and specifications, identify potential risks, implement proactive measures to mitigate them and verify that all the work is performed to the highest quality standards. Objectives of this role Planning, coordinating and managing all phases of interior design fitout & construction projects, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closeout. Aligned with SACAPs workstages 1-6. Establishing project objectives, scope and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with client requirements. Developing and managing project schedules, fee proposals and resource allocations to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery. Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to monitor construction progress, resolve issues and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. Liaising with the client to elucidate their requirements and concerns and communicating this with the project team and designers. Including assigning workflow and tasks to the team. Managing our in-house procurement manager to oversee procurement processes, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations and vendor selection. Oversee project budgeting and cost control and manage change orders to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints. Conducting regular site inspections, or arranging for others to do so, to assess project progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with the design intent. we undertake work in South Africa, but also throughout the African continent and further abroad, and travel will be expected from time to time. Maintain effective communication with project team members and stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns and foster strong working relationships. Your tasks Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies. Coordinate and oversee interior design activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications. Evaluate and select contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost-effectiveness. Monitor project progress and report on project status to stakeholders. Manage construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders. Conduct regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives. Provide regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates, and any significant developments or risks. Carry out thorough project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures. Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Required skills and qualifications A bachelor's degree in construction project management or a Masters in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related field. 3 years of relevant experience in construction project management, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget. Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, architectural and design work stages and processes and the interior design and construction industry. Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including project drawings, specifications and schematics. Strong leadership and communication skills to manage project teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software would be advantageous. Preferred skills and qualifications Relevant professional certification in project management or construction management, or an interior design/architectural certification with local bodies such as SAIA, SACAP or the IID. Knowledge of risk management and budget management principles. Experience in managing high-end residential projects in Africa. Proficiency in using Building Information Modelling (BIM) software. Experience with construction contract negotiations and claims management. Strong financial understanding and experience in project budgeting and cost control.
