About the Role Join a dynamic mechanical team within a global organization renowned for delivering impactful solutions across various sectors. Specializing in Data Centres, Power Plants, Renewable Energy Infrastructure, and Water Treatment Facilities, this team handles planning, design, engineering, construction, technology, and energy services. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing EMEA presence as a Principal Mechanical Engineer , with an initial focus on a key project in London and future potential to lead projects across the region. Supported by established teams in the US and India, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the business in EMEA, leading and mentoring a team of engineers to deliver excellence in mechanical engineering design and execution. This permanent role is based in London or Glasgow with hybrid working arrangements (2-3 days per week in the office near Euston). Applicants outside the London area who can commute a few times a month are welcome to apply. Key Responsibilities: Mechanical Discipline Leadership : Lead the mechanical engineering efforts for Data Centre infrastructure projects as a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Team Leadership : Mentor and manage a team of engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality deliverables and professional growth. Design Delivery : Oversee the detailed design of large-scale HVAC and plumbing systems, ensuring adherence to project and client requirements. Technical Expertise : Provide subject matter expertise in Data Centre/mission-critical HVAC/plumbing design. Code Compliance : Ensure designs align with UK and European codes and standards. Project Coordination : Collaborate with project teams to meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements. Field Assessments : Conduct site surveys, evaluate existing conditions, and prepare reports. Design Reviews : Oversee and review technical drawings, ensuring compliance with standards and client needs. Risk Management : Identify and mitigate design risks related to redundancy and resiliency. Client Interaction : Communicate effectively with clients to understand project requirements and ensure satisfaction. Profile & Qualifications As a Principal Mechanical Engineer , you will have a strong background in Data Centres or Building Services Engineering, with proven mechanical engineering expertise and leadership skills. A proactive problem-solver, you will thrive in fast-paced environments, handling ambiguous scopes and delivering flexible solutions. Required Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or CIBSE. 10 years of relevant mechanical MEP experience in the UK, with significant experience leading teams and projects. Extensive experience in Data Centres, Mission Critical Facilities, or Building Services Engineering. Expertise in UK Codes & Standards. Preferred Qualifications : Knowledge of BS EN 50600, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.4, and CIBSE guidance. Experience with construction support and design risk factors for redundancy. Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, BIM 360, and Navisworks. Understanding of hyper-scale, edge, and colocation Data Centre designs. Familiarity with Data Centre tier rating systems. Experience with CDM regulations. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
