Job Description

A veterinarian working on a farm in Delmas, Mpumalanga, would primarily focus on the health and well-being of livestock. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring optimal animal health, productivity, and compliance with agricultural standards. Job Description: Animal Health Management: Conduct regular health assessments and examinations of farm animals. Diagnose and treat illnesses, diseases, and injuries. Develop and implement vaccination and deworming programs. Monitor and manage outbreaks of diseases, ensuring biosecurity measures are in place. Reproductive Services: Assist with breeding programs, including artificial insemination and pregnancy checks. Provide reproductive health services to enhance fertility rates. Surgical Procedures: Perform routine and emergency surgeries as needed. Ensure proper post-operative care and recovery monitoring. Nutrition and Management Consultation: Advise on optimal nutrition plans to promote growth and productivity. Recommend best practices for animal housing, handling, and overall farm management. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all veterinary practices comply with local and national agricultural regulations. Maintain accurate records of treatments, vaccinations, and health assessments. Client Education: Educate farm owners and workers on animal health, welfare, and biosecurity practices. Provide training on early disease detection and emergency response. Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc) or equivalent from an accredited institution. Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC). Experience: Prior experience in large animal or farm animal practice is highly desirable. Familiarity with livestock common to the Delmas region, such as cattle and poultry. Skills: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills for interacting with farm owners and workers. Physical stamina and the ability to work in various farm environments. Proficiency in record-keeping and basic computer skills. Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different farm locations. Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with advancements in veterinary medicine.
