Job Description
Role Purpose: The operational support engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the MIDL data platform. This role ensures the platform's availability, performance, and scalability to support data product development and operations. The operational support engineer is responsible for the seamless operation, monitoring, and support of backend database systems. This role emphasizes maintaining data integrity, optimizing performance, and ensuring efficient delivery of business-critical processes. Key responsibilities include supporting Business as Usual (BAU) delivery, overseeing database loads/ Daily loads, providing proactive support, and managing escalations as necessary. Requirements: Education: Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or suitable related field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management. Must preferably have experience in a support role within a data environment. Requires a strong understanding of data systems and data infrastructure. Technical skills: familiarity with cloud services (AWS specifically), virtualization technologies, scripting languages ( SQL & Python) and monitoring tools. Technical skills: Operating knowledge of SQL and to read and understand SSIS for investigation, start SQL jobs and SQL stored procedures, and diagnose issues in a SQL environment. Technical skills: preferable if they can design and develop their own monitoring dashboards (PowerBI) Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Duties & Responsibilities: Support Monitoring of emails for client emails to create and execute support tickets Communicating the completion of support tickets to clients Provide support to data users, helping them with queries and issues related to data access, data quality, and system performance. Monitoring Monitoring of emails for system generated emails (regarding DQ breaches and run issues) and create BAU issue tickets accordingly. Checking that jobs and batches complete successfully. Continuously monitor data systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and efficiently. Monitor the day-to-day operations of the data platform, ensuring high availability and performance. Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations. Perform monitoring checks outside of normal business hours Identify patterns and trends proactively and drive remediation activities to prevent recurrence Addressing Issues Troubleshoot any issues that arise within the data environment, including data pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and system outages. Identify improvements and streamlining through trend analysis Triggering and overseeing re-runs Collaboration: Work closely with Data Engineers, Data Architects, and other stakeholders to support the development and deployment of data products that ensure the data environment meets the needs of the organization. Assist with User access reviews Liaise with auditors (internal or external) regarding audits of the data platform Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of the infrastructure, processes, and procedures. Maintain detailed documentation of issues, resolutions, and system changes to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity. Facilitate development and maintenance of dashboards to assist with the monitoring of daily runs.
