Job Description
About Deep Mine At Deep Mine, we are a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Driven by rigorous engineering developments of new defense products based on recent robotics and AI developments, we are on a steep growth trajectory. If you are interested in a career in a highly technical environment, thrive on pushing boundaries, and want to achieve ambitious goals, we would love to hear from you. About the Role We are looking for an exceptionally driven Chief of Staff to partner directly with our CEO. This role is not for the faint of heart. As our Chief of Staff, you will be a critical force multiplier—stepping in wherever the CEO’s capacity is exceeded, ensuring every strategic objective is executed at the highest standard, and maintaining relentless forward momentum across the organization. You will operate at the heart of our mission: championing company priorities, enabling strategic decision-making, and proactively addressing operational hurdles before they arise. This position demands 100% commitment to our vision. You will be required to think and act both strategically and tactically: one day you might be refining corporate strategy and leading internal initiatives; the next, you could be directly handling complex negotiations, optimizing processes, or engaging stakeholders both inside and outside the company. Above all, you will serve as an extension of the CEO, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of our company’s growth and success. Responsibilities Strategic Execution & Decision Enablement: Partner with the CEO to translate big-picture vision into actionable plans. Work cross-functionally to ensure that projects, deadlines, and initiatives remain on track and aligned with overarching company objectives. Operational Excellence & Problem Solving: Take ownership of overflow responsibilities from the CEO—from high-level strategy reviews to detailed operational tasks. Identify bottlenecks early, streamline workflows, and resolve operational challenges swiftly, ensuring no critical initiatives stall. High-Level Project Management: Lead and manage complex, interdisciplinary projects (e.g., launching a new engineering capability, optimizing supply chain, structuring strategic partnerships). Track KPIs, manage timelines, and ensure accountability among all stakeholders. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Act as a trusted representative of the CEO in high-stakes external engagements—ranging from investor meetings to negotiations with top defense partners. Coordinate cross-departmental communication, keeping all teams informed, aligned, and motivated. Company Growth & Culture Building: Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and team development efforts—particularly for strategic hires. Help cultivate a culture of rigor, intensity, and continuous improvement, serving as a role model in terms of work ethic, resilience, and adaptability. Proactive Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Constantly seek opportunities to improve our internal systems, decision-making frameworks, and resource allocation. Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive insights, and emerging technologies to inform strategic planning and maintain our cutting-edge advantage. Candidate Requirements Background: 3-5 years of experience in a demanding environment such as engineering management, top-tier consulting, corporate finance, defense contracting, or a technology-driven scale-up. Entry-level candidates with exceptional ability are encouraged to apply. Technical Acumen: A strong engineering or technical background is a huge plus. The ideal candidate can understand complex engineering challenges and product roadmaps. International Exposure: Experience working across borders and cultures; comfortable engaging with partners, customers, and stakeholders worldwide. Skills & Attributes: Strategic Mindset: Able to zoom out, see the big picture, and identify the critical path. Operational Mastery: Equally comfortable getting into the weeds to ensure execution at the highest level. Exceptional Communication: Fluent in English (French is a plus), with the ability to influence diverse audiences—from front-line engineers to board-level executives. Resilience Under Pressure: Invaluable in high-stress situations, maintaining composure, focus, and a solutions-oriented mindset. Extreme Proactivity: Always two steps ahead, anticipating the CEO’s needs and the company’s next move before it becomes urgent. Location & Commitment: On-site in Paris with potential for significant travel. This is a full-on immersion role, requiring unwavering dedication, flexibility, and availability. What We Offer High-Impact Environment: Directly influence the trajectory of a rapidly scaling deep-tech defense company. Generous Compensation: Competitive salary ($100k), stock-options in the company, and a comprehensive benefits package. Accelerated Growth: A unique opportunity to develop top-tier strategic and operational leadership skills by working hand-in-hand with the CEO. Mission-Critical Role: Contribute meaningfully to building a more secure and advanced future in defense technology.
