Join us at xFarm Technologies and be a part of the digital transformation in agriculture, contributing to a sustainable future The GeospatialAI team, in charge of building AI models on top of satellite imagery inside xFarm products is looking for a Software Backend Engineer . You will be responsible for designing and implementing backend services that ingest, process, and serve satellite data, power geospatial analytics, and support machine learning pipelines. You’ll work closely with the Front-End team and Data Science team to build APIs and microservices that scale to handle vast amounts of geospatial data. Key Responsibilities Build and Maintain Microservices: Design, implement, and deploy Geospatial based APIs Data Pipeline Development: Develop ingestion and preprocessing pipelines for satellite data (downloading, indexing, storing, and converting to appropriate geospatial formats). Database & Storage Management: Work with geospatial databases (PostGIS, BigQuery GIS) and cloud object storage (GCP Cloud Storage, AWS S3) to handle large-scale data sets efficiently. Performance & Scalability: Optimize system performance to handle continent-level coverage, large volumes of imagery, and time-series analyses. Collaboration & Code Quality: Work in cross-functional teams (Front-End, ML, DevOps, Product) using Agile methodologies. Write clean, modular, testable code, and participate in code reviews. Minimum Qualifications Proven experience (5 years) as a backend engineer or cloud engineer or similar role Proficient in our core languages : Python (FastAPI or Flask), SQL (PostgreSQL, BigQuery) Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms (mainly GCP, AWS is a plus), containerization (Docker), and possibly serverless component Solid knowledge of RESTful API design and best practices (versioning, rate limiting, authentication). Solid knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and ideally PostGIS or another geospatial database. Experience with CI/CD pipelines , TDD/automated testing, and best DevOps practices. Proficiency in English (written and oral) to communicate effectively in an international team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with geospatial data processing ( Xarray, Rasterio, STAC, Geopandas, Dask, GDAL) Experience working on complex system at large scale Experience in optimizing data storage and distributed computation Experience building ML data pipelines for training and inference Familiarity with big data analytics frameworks (Apache Beam, Spark) and/or BigQuery Soft Skills Team player , you thrive in a collaborative environment and work well with others to achieve shared goals. Excellent communication and collaborative skills; comfortable working with data scientists, DevOps, and front-end engineers. Problem-solving mindset: you can diagnose bottlenecks in geospatial workflows and propose effective solutions. Ownership & Autonomy : capable of driving features from design to production with minimal oversight.
