Team Overview Our R&D team are responsible for preparing R&D and patent box claims, alongside preparing grant applications for clients of the Firm. Our client base ranges from high technology start-ups through to large multinational businesses. The team prepare a large number of claims for SME tech, architects and pharma businesses, and are therefore looking to recruit someone who has a STEM background to help assist in preparing these claims. This role would provide the ideal starting point to begin a career specialising in R&D tax. In addition, given the breadth of projects we support, the team have access to a varied client portfolio, and as such, everyone will have a hands-on experience of all aspects of preparing a claim. Therefore, this role offers the opportunity to build a broad-based career and to be the lead R&D specialist on many fabulous clients. Role Overview The core of this role is to prepare claims for the Firms R&D tax client base and liaise with clients to ensure their claims are prepared on time. As this aspect of businesses has substantial room to grow, we would expect someone joining the team to engage with the learning activities, to develop into delivering high-quality work across all of our sectors. This role will provide the successful candidate with a springboard to build their career and to progress as a key member of the R&D team within Buzzacott. Duties and Responsibilities Ensure that the R&D tax claims across all sectors are prepared on time and meet our quality standards. Ensuring claims contain sufficient technical content to meet HMRCs requirements that we are seeing from compliance check campaigns. Engage with technical documentation training and wider R&D tax credits training offered by the team and third parties. As part of this role, an interest in HMRCs position in relation to claims is required, as well as making suggestions on how processes and templates could be adapted to reflect these changes. Have a technical knowledge of a STEM subject and to be able to incorporate this knowledge into the claim content. Keen interest in staying up to date with science and technology. Deliver technical and costing aspects of the claims within R&D tax team and seek to deliver this work within project budgets and KPIs. Be an active team member and offer up suggestions and ideas. Skills and Experience 2.1 Degree, ideally in science, technology, engineering or information science subject along with a detailed interest in the application of science and technology within innovative businesses A minimum of 120 UCAS Tariff points from your top 3 A-levels, or equivalent (300 using the old tariff). Demonstrable English Language skills, both verbally and written, with experience of writing reports or longer documents Experience with preparing a presentation or dissertation on a technical subject as part of degree course Interest in latest developments in innovation and technology Communication skills, in particular an ability to articulate complex topics in laymans terms and discuss issues with senior staff. Willingness to adapt claim processes and documentation to meet the ever-changing needs of clients and HMRC. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
