Job Description

Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a tertiary qualification in Science (e.g., B.Sc.), Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field Experience in the SHEQ sector is advantageous Must have an understanding of wastewater treatment processes and technologies Knowledge of SHEQ regulations and management principles, or a willingness to master them, is essential Must be a logical thinker with analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret environmental and safety data as well as make informed decisions Familiarity with ISO 14001 and Leather Working Group (LWG) systems is advantageous Excellent communication and teamwork abilities The successful candidate will be responsible for: Revising, developing, implementing, and monitoring integrated SHEQ policies, procedures, and standards to comply with ISO 14001 and Leather Working Group (LWG) standards. Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, permits, and licenses. Conducting regular audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement. Managing and improving the wastewater (effluent) plant. Implementing and managing waste minimization, recycling, and disposal programs. Monitoring and reporting on SHEQ performance metrics (e.g., energy, water, air emissions, and workplace safety). Assisting with energy-efficient practices, renewable energy systems, water-saving measures, air pollution control measures, and other sustainability initiatives. Collaborating with production teams to implement environmentally friendly, safe, and quality-focused practices. Developing and implementing occupational health and safety programs, including training and emergency response plans. Ensuring compliance with internal quality management standards in line with client specifications. Identifying deviations from quality standards and coordinating with production staff to make necessary process adjustments.
