Job Description

Position Title: Port to DC Operations Manager Location: Hammarsdale Reporting To: Regional Manager Purpose of the Job: To oversee depot operations, including container management and shuttle truck operations, while improving performance through monitoring systems. Qualifications/Experience Required: Education: Matric (Grade 12) certificate. A National Diploma, Degree, or BCom in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, or related fields. Experience: At least 5 years in container depot or logistics operations and 3 years in leadership or middle management. Knowledge of health and safety programs (advantageous). Proficiency in logistics software. Skills: Strong analytical abilities for monitoring KPIs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with transport and port regulations. Key Responsibilities: Container Management: Efficient container movement and space allocation. Collaboration with shipping lines and customers. Shuttle Truck Operations: Scheduling, fuel usage, and vehicle maintenance. Dashboard and KPI Management: Develop and maintain real-time dashboards to track operational performance utilising CMS (Container Management System). Monitor key metrics such as container turnaround time, truck cycle times, and yard occupancy rates. Analyse data to identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements. Provide regular reports to senior management with actionable insights. CMS Yard System Management: Manage and optimize the CMS yard system for accurate tracking of container movements. Ensure seamless integration of the CMS with other logistics and transport systems if required. Train staff on CMS functionalities and troubleshooting. Continuously improve system utilization to enhance operational efficiency. Take full yard management responsibility, including local supplier deliveries, ensuring smooth vehicle movements through yards via an integrated booking system. Oversee daily and weekly resource, staff shifts, and cost management (e.g., shifts and overtime). Responsible for the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) of the Hammarsdale Container Yard. People Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operational and administrative staff. Ensure efficient workforce planning, including shift management and workload distribution, overseeing outputs of the BCL site manager. Maintain high levels of performance, motivation, and engagement within the team. Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback, and implement staff development plans. Address and resolve staff issues, ensuring a safe and productive work environment. Manage housekeeping and the on-site relationship with the DC to maximize client satisfaction. Ensuring safety and compliance with transport regulations.
