Job Description
Purpose of the Role: Responsible for ensuring accurate tax filings, managing SARS-related queries, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation. Adept at working efficiently in a structured environment while supporting clients and internal teams with tax-related matters. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Tax Practitioner Registration and maintaining required CPD hours Managing client administration on ProfTax, including take-on and take-off procedures Accurate data capturing and record-keeping on ProfSoft, tax inbox, and tax query list Preparing and submitting tax returns for companies, trusts, close corporations, and individuals Reviewing SARS assessments to confirm accuracy or identify disputes Sending assessment letters to clients daily Preparing client billings within monthly deadlines Assisting Partners, Managers, and clerks with tax-related matters Handling SARS queries and correspondence on behalf of clients Gathering necessary client information to address tax-related tasks and concerns Complying with internal deadlines and ensuring timely submissions Preparing and submitting registration and deregistration documents to SARS Keeping up to date with the Tax Administration Act and tax legislation changes Monitoring client tax payments and refunds on a monthly basis Training clerks and staff on tax amendments and SARS procedures Supporting the Tax Compliance Officer with provisional tax administration, income tax registrations, and eFiling database maintenance Attending SARS appointments with and on behalf of clients Setting up and transferring eFiling profiles for new taxpayers Query Management Ensuring tax queries are resolved promptly, efficiently, and within required due dates Maintaining accurate and up-to-date tax queries on ProfSoft Managing the SAICA query register and following up on outstanding matters Lodging and tracking relevant tax complaints with the Tax Ombudsman General Responsibilities Assisting with weekly progress reporting on query lists and tax return submissions Contributing to monthly newsletters with relevant tax updates Proactively improving systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy Maintaining effective communication with other departments, including audit, accounting, and secretarial teams Attending to client birthday acknowledgments as part of relationship management Identifying cross-selling opportunities within the firm Criteria: Relevant qualification in tax, accounting, or finance Strong knowledge of SARS eFiling, tax laws, and compliance regulations At least 4 years of experience in tax administration or a similar role Experience in an accounting or tax firm (advantageous) Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure Proficiency in ProfTax, ProfSoft, and Microsoft Office Fluent in English with a good command of Afrikaans
