Job Description

The successful applicant is required to perform the following key functions, amongst other duties: Coordinate and supervise skilled and semi-skilled workers and contractors engaged in the maintenance or alteration, repairs of Electrical and Mechanical assets. Coordinate and supervise skilled and semi-skilled workers and contractors engaged in the maintenance of buildings and terrain excluding treatment works. Coordinate corrective action between the electrical and instrumentation sub-departments. Plan & assign duties and tasks to electrical and mechanical artisans, monitor progress and take corrective action where needed. Ensure that all job cards are correctly filled in including details of work performed and machine performance data and submitted for data capturing. Review regular standard work reports concerning human resource utilization, failure mode statistics, types of repairs made, material used, and cost of completed work assignments. Make improvements and/or recommendations accordingly. Oversee procurement of machines, spares, consumables, tools and equipment needed in conjunction with the Procurement department. Oversee minimum stock levels for spares & materials inventory. Provide second line maintenance and technical support to Artisans and Operations staff. Perform Root Cause Analysis on significant breakdowns and failures. Provide technical support to the Engineering Department in new electro-mechanical projects. Participate in commissioning of new equipment and, or technology in plant and pump stations. Ensure that subordinates comply with the OHS act and company safety protocol at all times. Ensure the general safety of people around electrical and mechanical plant & equipment. Ensure that mandatory safety tests and inspections are carried out timeously on specified equipment, e.g. lifting equipment and pressure vessels. Review and approve vehicle inspection sheets weekly. Ensure that the new assets receiving procedure is executed. Provide input into the training requirements and career development of subordinates. Take part in planning and execution of plant maintenance shutdowns. Enforce discipline for subordinates according to the companys policy and the Labour Relations Act. Contribute to ISO documentation & procedures where relevant to M&E maintenance. Ensure acceptable Housekeeping of work areas. Planning yearly maintenance/updating/execution Edams. Area of responsibility is within the concession, mainly Nelspruit Water and Wastewater Systems Water and Sewage plant & equipment. This may be subject to change. The applicant is required to have: Required Education N3 Millwright, Mechanical or Electrical Trade or other relevant trade or engineering qualifications and experience. Valid trade test - Red Seal. Valid code EB drivers license for Manual vehicles. Required Work Experience 10 years minimum trade experience in total. 5 years minimum experience in water and wastewater industry. Proven Management experience. Safety experience: Confined spaces. Working at heights / fall protection. Electrical installations. Required Skills and Capabilities Considerable knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance. Considerable knowledge of standard skilled trade operations and repair methods. Considerable knowledge of the materials and equipment used in water and sewer reticulation. Considerable knowledge of chlorine gas dosing equipment and chemical dosing pumps. Considerable knowledge of electrical installation and standards. Considerable knowledge of Blue and Green Drop requirements. Considerable knowledge of ISO standards Environmental, HS, Quality. Considerable knowledge of confined space entry requirements. Exceptional organizational skills relevant to work. Administration and filing.
