Are you a skilled engineer passionate about operating systems, embedded platforms, and AI integration? A leading R&D center in Italy is seeking a motivated and versatile software engineer to join their expanding team, dedicated to building the next generation of automotive and intelligent systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative solutions involving intelligent cockpits, edge AI deployment, real-time operating systems, and embedded optimization for high-performance automotive computing. Role Overview The successful candidate will work closely with a collaborative, multicultural team of software and hardware experts focused on deep system-level innovation. Projects span the full software stack, from kernel and hardware abstraction to advanced AI-enabled applications. Key Responsibilities Architect and enhance core OS components (Linux, Android, or open-source equivalents) tailored for embedded automotive environments. Develop robust, high-efficiency software for intelligent cockpit systems and autonomous driving platforms. Perform deep performance tuning and optimization across various compute resources (CPU, GPU, etc.) in embedded contexts. Deploy and optimize AI models for real-time edge inference in constrained automotive environments. Collaborate in a research-driven setting focused on both industrial solutions and future-proof technology design. Ideal Profile Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field. Solid experience in system-level programming using C/C++ or Python. Background in embedded system design, preferably in automotive or safety-critical domains. Proven ability in performance optimization and low-level system profiling. Comfortable working with real-time OS, concurrency, and hardware-software integration. Clear communication and problem-solving skills in an international team setting. In-depth knowledge of Linux kernel and/or Android/OpenHarmony internals. Hands-on experience with virtualization, containers, or hypervisors. Practical knowledge of embedded AI frameworks and edge deployment tools. Exposure to functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF). Familiarity with high-performance or distributed computing. Publications, patents, or notable contributions to open-source or R&D initiatives. Experience with global teams or cross-cultural collaboration. Willingness to occasionally travel abroad for project or collaboration purposes.
