Job Description
Job Title: Electrical Supervisor Salary/rate: Market Related Position overview: • To oversee the electrical installation and commissioning of solar power plants in South Africa. • The ideal candidate will have expertise in solar PV systems, medium-voltage(MV) and high-voltage (HV) electrical works, and grid connections. • This role requires leadership, ensuring all electrical activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Qualifications: • Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. • 5 years of experience in electrical supervision, preferably in solar PV renewable energy projects. • Knowledge of solar PV systems, MV/HV networks, transformers, and switchgear. • Strong understanding of electrical safety codes and standards (SANS, IEC, OSHA,NERSA, NRS 097-2-1, etc.). • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layout drawings. • Experience in SCADA systems, energy meters, and grid compliance testing is an advantage. • Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting, protection systems, and power distribution. • Leadership, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills. Skills and Experience: • Experience in utility-scale solar PV plants (5MW) • Knowledge of MV/HV switching procedures and permit-to-work (PTW) systems. • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid solar projects (advantageous). • Ability to work in remote locations and manage site challenge Responsibilities: • Electrical Supervision: Oversee electrical installation, including solar panels, inverters, transformers, MV/HV substations, cabling, and earthing systems. • Quality Control: Ensure electrical works comply with project drawings, national electrical codes (SANS, NRS), and best practices. • Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce electrical safety standards (OSHA, SANS10142-1, NERSA regulations, etc.) to protect workers and equipment. • Team Leadership: Manage electrical teams, including electricians, technicians, and subcontractors, ensuring efficient work execution. • Testing & Commissioning: Supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning tests of electrical systems, including insulation resistance tests, continuity checks, and functional tests. • Fault Diagnosis & Resolution: Identify and resolve electrical issues to ensure project timelines are met. • Project Coordination: Work closely with civil and mechanical teams to ensure proper integration of electrical components. • Material Management: Monitor electrical material usage and ensure availability required equipment and supplies. • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain daily and weekly progress reports, quality control records, and incident reports
