Role We are seeking a Senior FDIR-FSW Systems Engineer to join our systems team. As part of the System Engineering Department, you will collaborate with operations, systems, subsystems, and payload engineers to document and review system designs for Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR). You will also work closely with the FSW development team to implement, test, and review FDIR test artifacts. Responsibilities Your role will involve a variety of tasks and activities based on your experience, including: Define fault detection actions at the system and subsystem levels. Document how the platform interfaces with the payload for satellite-level FDIR. Collaborate with the operations team to define contingency scenarios for FDIR. Work with customers to refine FDIR strategy, ensuring compatibility with customer needs. Coordinate with the FSW team to define FDIR test plans for FlatSat and DSS. Collaborate with the AI&T team to determine FDIR test requirements at the spacecraft level. Review FMECAs and provide feedback on failure detection, isolation, and recovery processes. Support the Operations team in developing Operations Procedures, Manuals, and Satellite Test Procedures aligned with the FDIR strategy. Review ICDs to provide inputs for parameters and monitors for the satellite DB team. Review designs, including block diagrams, ICDs, ConOps, and requirements, ensuring compliance with FDIR requirements. Assess FDIR test artifacts to determine test success and troubleshoot issues if non-compliance is found. Support the development of Verification & Validation Matrices for platform and payload FDIR requirements. Assist the payload team with the definition of payload FDIR and its impact on satellite-level FDIR. Provide support for In-Orbit Test (IOT) and anomaly resolution activities related to FDIR. Contribute to the development of ICDs for both hardware and software/database systems. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a relevant field. A minimum of 10 years of relevant practical experience (can be supplemented with advanced degrees in Engineering). Previous experience with LEO/MEO satellite systems. Strong ability to collaborate across functional teams. Experience in the analysis of satellite systems and subsystems. Familiarity with FMECAs and/or Fault Tree Analysis. Understanding of failure propagation through complex systems. Ability to break down system-level failures to unit-level failures and vice versa. Knowledge of satellite FSW and its role in FDIR. Experience with testing hardware and software for FDIR. Desirable Skills and Knowledge Experience with Constellation FDIR. Familiarity with the creation of Fault Trees and FMECAs. Experience with reliability analysis. Working knowledge of PUS services. Experience in mentoring junior engineers. Experience with FDIR on embedded systems. Knowledge of payload FDIR. Proficiency in MS Excel for engineering analyses. Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Windchill, or Jama. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
