Job Description
Job Description: A client of Insight Global is hiring a FACTS Sr. Project Engineer for their team. This person will be responsible for: Application expertise in FACTS devices, synchronous condensers, and fixed series capacitors . Support the preparation of tender packages for FACTS devices. Analyze customer requirements; perform technical and commercial analysis to optimize system design and equipment selection. Develop required studies and technical specifications with support from Systems Application Engineer. Coordinate equipment designs with manufacturers factories and power system consultants. Conduct necessary calculations for equipment selection, including load (var) flow, short-circuit, and insulation coordination. Utilize Excel-based tools or specialized power systems software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP, EasyPower, ASPEN OneLiner). Specify and select major plant items, such as GCBs, cooling systems, starting pony motors, and GSU transformers, capacitors, reactors, Metal Oxide Varistors, Bypass devices. Perform site assessments for project locations and adapt designs to fit within site constraints. Participate in technical contract reviews and conduct quality reviews of bid packages to maximize submittal quality. Mentor and coach other engineers in FACTS technology. Must Have Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar field from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 8 years of related engineering experience. Experience with FACTS technologies (e.g., SVC, STATCOM, series compensation FSC, SSSC, TCSC ). Understanding of grid-forming controls and virtual synchronous machine algorithms. Exposure to Mark VI and PLC controls. Participation in industry working groups (IEEE, Cigre, IEC). Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, with the ability to engineer design packages without explicit customer specifications. Aptitude or experience in complex equipment issues involving grid problems relevant to FACTS solutions. Exposure to electrical system modelling software. (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, EasyPower, ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP) Experience in designing and executing solutions utilizing FACTS technology. Knowledge of Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) testing. Experience in installation, field-testing, and commissioning of HV equipment, with a commitment to safe work habits. Proven track record of successfully leading and managing engineering projects. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Compensation: CAD $70/hr to CAD$85/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
