Job Description

Mechanical Engineer | Barcelona Want to work for an exciting telecoms start-up, who are launching a new satellite constellation? This is a unique opportunity to come onboard as the first mechanical engineering hire, to oversee the design of mechanical systems for satellite and spacecraft projects. This will be working across the entire spacecraft development life cycle—from concept through to delivery. Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical design of spacecraft components and systems, ensuring they meet both functional and environmental requirements. Use CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for spacecraft systems. Conduct mechanical and thermal analysis to assess material behavior and component performance under space conditions (e.g., vacuum, radiation, extreme temperatures). Develop design-for-manufacturing (DFM) strategies to optimize designs for cost-effective and efficient production. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques for space applications, with a focus on lightweight, durable, and radiation-resistant options. Collaborate on thermal, structural, vibration, and environmental testing of components to validate designs. Work closely with electrical engineers, systems engineers, and other teams to ensure system integration and performance. Contribute to the design and development of satellite payloads, propulsion systems, and other spacecraft subsystems. Prepare documentation, specifications, and reports for design, testing, and analysis. Required Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. At least 4 years of experience in mechanical design, particularly in spacecraft or satellite systems or other similar systems operating in extreme environments. Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for mechanical design and modeling. Strong understanding of spacecraft design requirements, including the effects of thermal, vacuum, and radiation conditions on materials and systems. Experience with typical spacecraft materials and techniques (e.g., aluminum, honeycomb panels, heat pipes/straps). Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach to engineering challenges. Apply below for more info
