Senior Database Engineer - Amazon RDS

Job Description : We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Engineer with a strong focus on AWS to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing our database infrastructure within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. You will leverage your deep expertise in Oracle databases, high availability solutions like RAC and GoldenGate, and various AWS database services to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our critical data assets. You will collaborate closely with network, security, and application teams to establish seamless and secure data connectivity. Key Responsibilities : - Architect, deploy, and manage highly available and scalable database solutions in AWS using Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service). - Implement and configure Single Database High Availability (SDH) using RDS in AWS, ensuring correct configurations for optimal uptime and resilience. - Manage and maintain database links between various database instances, ensuring smooth and reliable database communication. - Collaborate with network, firewall, IDM, and security teams to establish and maintain secure AWS-to-AWS connectivity for database services. - Perform comprehensive end-to-end testing and validation of database configurations and connectivity with downstream analytics applications. - Configure and manage TLS (Transport Layer Security) between critical applications (e.g., Argus) and the SDH environment for secure data exchange. - Perform database administration tasks including patching, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies within the AWS environment. - Monitor database performance and health using AWS CloudWatch and other relevant tools, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues. - Implement and manage database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability management in AWS. - Troubleshoot database-related issues, providing timely and effective resolutions. - Utilize AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for efficient and reliable migration of databases to and within the AWS environment. - Design and implement data integration solutions leveraging database links and other appropriate technologies. - Implement and enforce security best practices for database environments in AWS, adhering to company policies and industry standards. - Configure and manage VPC Endpoints to ensure secure and private connectivity to AWS database services. - Work with security teams to implement and maintain firewall rules and security groups for database access control. - Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools for routine database tasks and deployments in AWS. - Document all setups, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices for database environments in AWS. Required Skills : - Strong knowledge of database concepts and operations, including relational database design, SQL, data integrity, and transaction management. - Expertise in Oracle DB, including installation, configuration, administration, performance tuning, backup, and recovery. - Proven experience with Oracle RAC for high availability and scalability. - Hands-on experience with Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication and integration. - Hands-on experience with AWS services. - Solid grasp of networking concepts : IP addressing, whitelisting, firewall rules, security groups, and network troubleshooting in AWS. - Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation tasks. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Experience with other AWS database services (e.g., Aurora, DynamoDB). - Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. - Experience with database performance monitoring and tuning tools in AWS. - Familiarity with database security best practices and compliance standards in the cloud. - Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation for databases in AWS. - Relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database Specialty) (ref:hirist.tech)
