Brisbane, QLD Location Create news stories for the ABC Fixed term contract backfilling maternity leave (9 June 25-24 May 2026) Base salary $92K to $99K paid on a pro rata basis The Role The Brisbane newsroom is looking for an experienced and energetic reporter to join the team to generate and deliver stories for local and national audiences. We’re looking for a reporter who will file quality content for digital and broadcast audiences and work collaboratively with a big, busy team, often under tight deadlines. You’ll need to understand the audience demands across Brisbane and Queensland and demonstrate strong communication and time management skills. About You You're an experienced news reporter, with a track record of generating original stories and covering breaking news. You'll also be able to demonstrate: A strong understanding of Queensland issues and events. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. A keen eye for detail and experience working with others to accurately produce and sub-edit news articles under tight deadline pressures. Strong knowledge of analytics tools and a capacity to use this to inform story treatments, headlines and presentation. A demonstrated ability to identify fresh and interesting story ideas and angles that matter to the audience. A good understanding of social media, in particular its use as a newsgathering and storytelling tool. Well-developed cross-platform media production skills. Confident with relevant software, production systems and reporting tools.
