Estimator – Construction & Civil Engineering The Company Our client is a well-established civil engineering and construction contractor, recognised for delivering high-quality infrastructure projects. The Job As an Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing competitive and accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction and civil engineering projects. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure estimates align with project specifications, budgets, and timelines. Your expertise in cost analysis and estimating software will be instrumental in securing successful project bids. Key Responsibilities: Assess project plans, specifications, and documentation to develop detailed cost estimates. Conduct quantity take-offs and cost analysis for civil engineering and infrastructure projects. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure precise cost projections. Carry out site visits to gather key information and assess project conditions. Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations and negotiate pricing. Identify cost risks and value engineering opportunities. Prepare and present clear and concise estimate reports to senior management. Use industry-standard estimating software such as Bluebeam, CostX, or similar tools to improve efficiency and accuracy. Contribute to bid proposals and tender submissions. Keep up to date with market trends, material costs, and advancements in estimating techniques. About You You are a highly skilled Estimator with experience in civil engineering and construction. You have a strong understanding of cost estimation principles, construction methodologies, and contract documentation. Your keen eye for detail and analytical mindset enable you to produce precise cost estimates, ensuring projects remain commercially viable and competitive. Requirements : Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field OR a minimum of 3 years' experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering sector, preferably for a principal contractor. In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, civil engineering principles, and materials. Experience using estimating software (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX) and proficiency in MS Office Suite. Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and external partners. Previous experience preparing cost estimates for infrastructure, rail, or large-scale civil engineering projects.
