Job Description

Job Title: Solar Installer Electrician Purpose of the Role: To install, maintain, and repair solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, ensuring all electrical connections meet regulatory standards and function efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Install and connect solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other system components. Perform electrical wiring, conduit installation, and panel configuration in compliance with SANS and electrical codes. Conduct system testing, fault finding, and troubleshooting. Interpret electrical diagrams, layout drawings, and solar installation plans. Ensure installations meet design specifications and safety regulations. Perform routine maintenance on existing solar PV systems. Complete installation documentation, compliance certificates (CoC), and handover reports. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other site staff to ensure timely and quality delivery of projects. Adhere to all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Stay updated on solar technology, installation best practices, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications Required: Grade 12 / Matric certificate. Qualified Electrician with a valid Wireman’s License or Installation Electrician registration (Department of Labour). Additional certification in Solar PV Installation (e.g., PV GreenCard or SAPVIA accredited training) is highly advantageous. Experience: Minimum 2–5 years experience as an electrician. At least 1–2 years of experience in solar PV installations , including off-grid, grid-tied, and hybrid systems. Familiarity with brands like Victron, Sunsynk, Huawei, or Fronius is beneficial. Experience working at heights and with rooftop installations preferred. Skills & Competencies: Solid understanding of electrical systems and solar technology. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and circuit diagrams. Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities. Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness. Good communication and teamwork skills. Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and at heights. Working Conditions: On-site work, often in outdoor environments and on rooftops. Regular travel to installation sites (regional/local). Monday to Friday, with possible overtime or weekend work depending on project schedules. Use of power tools, ladders, and electrical testing equipment required.
