Job Description

Purpose of the Role: To provide accurate and timely financial data by maintaining the company’s financial records, with a focus on the unique needs of the construction industry. The Bookkeeper will support site costing, supplier reconciliations, and project-based accounting, contributing to sound financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Record and reconcile all financial transactions (cashbooks, general ledger, journals). Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate coding to construction projects and cost centres. Perform bank and supplier reconciliations on a monthly basis. Process supplier invoices and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with construction contracts and retentions. Track and manage job costing for construction projects. Assist with preparation of management accounts and cash flow reports. Process VAT returns, ensuring compliance with SARS regulations. Assist in payroll processing for site and office staff. Liaise with site managers and project teams to verify financial information. Support the preparation of audit files and liaise with external auditors when required. Maintain accurate financial records for all projects and company entities. Qualifications Required: Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics or Accounting. Diploma or Certificate in Bookkeeping / Accounting (e.g., ICB, AAT, or equivalent). Knowledge of construction accounting practices is a strong advantage. Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the construction or civil engineering sector. Strong experience using accounting software (e.g., Pastel , Xero , BuildSmart , or Sage ). Familiarity with job costing , supplier retention processes, and construction contract terms . Skills & Competencies: Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Strong understanding of VAT, payroll, and SARS submissions. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with site personnel and management. Discretion and integrity when handling confidential information. Strong organisational and time management abilities. Working Conditions: Based at Conradie Group’s Cape Town office with possible visits to project sites. Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some overtime may be required during month-end or audit periods.
